Flying anywhere in Dalaran.. AGAIN (3.3.0a)

This explains how to fly in sections of dalaran that are marked as "No Fly Zones" as well as what I think is going on and why it works.
There is so much explaining because it really does help you to actually do the exploit.

I assume this exploit appeared when Blizzard enabled the ability to fly above dalaran without being dismounted.

The trick involves transitioning from a "safe zone" (flying allowed), to the "no fly zone" you wish to fly in, then into a *Different* "safe zone", and then back again into the same "no fly zone", all before the server validates your flying status.

Before Blizzard added the fly above dalaran zone, two different safe zones were never next to each other, making this flaw in logic impossible to produce, but rare enough that it wasn't found in bug testing.

I assume each player has a list containing zones (part of the city) you pass through.
When your cross zones, something is added to this list, making a note of it. Periodically, the list is checked to enforce 'no fly zones'.
These checks tend to happen when you do something interesting, like bump into something, start moving, or stop moving.
I assume to to save memory, duplicates are not added to the list [important, in my theory anyways].

This is what the list looks like in the situation I create in the screen shots below.

1. Krasus Landing (Fly Zone)
2. Roads of Dalaran (No Fly Zone, Add Debuff)
3. Zone Above Dalaran (Fly Zone, Remove Debuff)
Roads of Dalaran (No Fly Zone) <- not added because already on list #2

*stop moving*

note: you must start from a hover, the drawing is misleading

Now the list will be evaluated, assuming you made those transitions without bumping into a building or stopping, which would cause it to evalute early.
The end result should be you inside a no fly zone, but without a debuff, which is in fact what happens.

This is not the same as bouncing back and fourth between an invalid and valid zone, and is the key the the entire trick.

What you need is 2 *different* valid zones next to each other. I think the easiest to learn with is the border between Krasus' Landing and the streets of Dalaran because you can use buildings to find out exactly where the border to the sky zone is.

If you try this several times and get the debuff, you are probably going from Valid Zone A, to Valid Zone B, and not passing through the invalid zone in betweem them. You NEED to pass through the invalid zone before entering the Sky Valid Zone.
Also remember to start this from a hover (don't be parked on a building or the server will give you the debuff early).

If you read my long winded explaination above, you will understand why once you do this trick, you cannot transition to another one without getting the debuff.

Rough representation of zones in Dalaran:

You can also start on a wall but it is MUCH more difficult because you need to climb to the sky zone and back down all before your position is evaluated by the server.

The results:

By the way, its pretty crazy that the grass around 'The Violet Citadel' and 'The Beer Gardens' behind the alliance only area, actually removes the no fly zone debuff! They did not do so before the sky zone was added... pretty bizarre.

Dalaran - No Fly Zone (3.1 outdated)

Outdated: see newer tutorial

As many people know, Dalaran is a no fly zone. Many people also knew how to fly above the North Bank pre Patch 3.1. In this post I plan to describe everything I have accumulated over the past 6 months about the 'no fly zone' mechanics in Dalaran.

The first thing to note is the debuff that causes you to dismount. There is one way to get rid of this thing without getting dismounted, and that is to travel to 'Krasus Landing'. The area that will remove the debuff is outlined in red in the first image. The second type of area in the image is the blue sections. These areas will not give you the debuff if you are inside them. If you enter them with the debuff, you will be dismounted.

There are 3 main areas to mount up.
1) The balcony of The Violet Citadel (take portal to top)
2) Krasus Landing (including doorway of building leading to the landing)
3) Outer half of any wall surrounding the city

In the above image I am on the wall behind the trade area. The green area represents valid areas to mount up (but will debuff you if you stay there), the red is an area you can't mount up and will debuff you if it detects you, and the blue area is a safe zone where if you make it in without the debuff, you are safe.

The key to entering these safe zones in Dalaran is to spend the least amount of time possible in the non safe zones, and to limit the amount of turning you do while passing through them. Flying in a straight line is always preferred. When you change directions or stop, the server takes the time to check if you are in an invalid location.

When mounting on the wall, you want to fly up and over the invalid half of the wall very quickly. This can even mean jumping into flight before the cast bar is finished, anticipating the server lag. If you are unable to pull this off, the balcony location puts you in a safe zone already, but this skill is useful to have for traveling to isolated 'safe zones'.

Above are two locations that are semi-difficult to reach. The technique to reach them involves flying in a straight line and being lucky. For both destinations, I find it easiest to fly high in the air above buildings and use the minimap to know when you reach your destination. If you get the debuff, head back to the landing, or find the nearest wall and try again.

Dalaran Arena

There may be several ways to get inside Dalaran arena. This is my favorite because you can use it to get pretty much anywhere in the floating rock that is Dalaran. You will again need an [Underbelly Elixir].

Go to the east end of the north hallway in Dalaran sewers. Match your mini map to the one in this first image if it is unclear which end of the hallway to be on. Your goal is to reach the water in the pit below you, but there is an invisible wall! The good news is there is a hole in the invisible wall. The red triangle in this image represent the invisible hole you want to pass through. Once you pass through it, fly left and downward until you reach the water pit below. From this pit, you can reach many places in Dalaran including the arena and the giant alligator.

This next image is taken from the west corner of this water pit. Moving your camera around will show different parts of Dalaran. Match your character to the one in this image. Fly up and over the wall texture, and then downward. Two things you need to watch out for as you make your way to the arena. First is that you don't fly forward and into the main room of Dalaran sewers. The second is the 'no fly zone' debuff that may get applied to you soon after leaving the water pit. While flying downward, you may encounter an invisible wall, just strafe your character a little to the right and continue straight down.

If you do it right, you will end up in Dalaran Arena, with a front row seat to the NPC battles that take place.

Edit: As of 3.3.0a, they removed rats that used to spawn down here... odd.

Dalaran Bank Tellers

The Dalaran bank tellers are isolated from players much like the Orgrimmar auction house, but that never stopped any one from visiting them, right? I have only found a way to get to the ones in the north bank in Dalaran (for some reason the south bank isn't a clone of the north one).

You will need a flying mount, or [Underbelly Elixir]. The elixirs make this much easier. If you are using the Elixir, drink and cancel the buffs until you are turned into a pink wasp. Do this while already in the north bank and you won't get a 'no fly zone' debuff.

The entry point is the red triangle in the picture, above any of the booths. If you are a wasp, approach from the top and fly downward through the red triangle. If you are on a flying mount, fly above the triangle and wait for it to dismount you. After it does, hold forward as you fall. If done right, you should end up inside the booth. From here, you can choose to stay in the booth, of pass through the back wall and into the gold holding cage.

The result.
